After the success of the Sussex Ground Hop weekend, we spoke to Pagham FC and Kellie Heatley to understand how the day is put together and what experiences a club can look forward to in the future:

We were approached last year by the organisers of “ground hopper ” but unfortunately we had to cancel due to weather conditions, but this year’s event was met with enthusiasm and thorough preparation.

The ground hoppers provided valuable insights on attendance and merchandise preferences, which guided the committee’s efforts to make the day a success. A collective effort ensured the ground was cleared and tidied, setting the stage for a successful day. Turner Pies, a local favourite with ties to the club, contributed their world famous pies, complementing the early kick-off and licensing restrictions focused on food offerings.

The additional merchandise was well-received, contributing to the day’s success.

The event unfolded smoothly, with ground hoppers bringing a lively atmosphere and the club’s kitchen and bar team delivering warm hospitality.

The post-event sentiment was overwhelmingly positive, leaving everyone at the club proud of the seamless execution of the day. The positive feedback and financial boost further underscored the event’s triumph.

For those considering hosting a ground hopper day, the experience suggests that with proper planning and a dedicated team, it can be a rewarding time despite the challenges in estimating attendance. The event not only fosters community spirit but also provides a financial uplift for the club.

Seeing our club stands filled with people enjoying the morning’s events ( the win was a bonus) is a great motivator moving forward. New ideas have already been introduced but it’s given myself and the committee a great boost to put on more ground filling days.

Thanks to the “groundhoppers” for a great day!!

The energy and enthusiasm from the day is a good motivator to host more days in the near future!
