Bexhill Utd once again proved their ability to get over cup disappointment with a well deserved win over newly-promoted Seaford Town on Monday morning.

Once again playing at Eastbourne Town’s Saffrons ground, Pirates boss Jay Skinner-Swain had said before the match that his squad were determined to put Saturday’s Vase exit to Guernsey behind them as they got back to league action.

His players responded positively in the opening exchanges against a lively looking Town outfit wanting to make their own impression in the Premier Division.

Bexhill opened the scoring on ten minutes, skipper Ritchie Welch rose above the opposition defence to head home from a superbly whipped in corner off the boot of Ryan Moir.

Seaford always posed a threat and won a series of corners, however it was the hosts who doubled their lead just after the half hour mark. Moir chased down a ball over the top and squared for the very impressive Jaan Stanley to finish at the second attempt.

Seaford though weren’t out of the reckoning and applied some pressure with their skipper Tyler Capon particularly effective but unable to make a breakthrough before the half time whistle went as the Town Hall clock struck noon.

Town were back in the game five minutes into the second half when centre half Knight met a free kick with a firm header, no chance for Stef Akras in the home goal.

Eleven minutes from time the Pirates made sure of the points as Moir ran through to square for Will Saunders to roll the ball home, the former picking up his third assist of the day despite the assistant referee flagging Jack Shonk offside in the build up.

Welch picked up the man of the match award but plenty of others in the squad were also in with a shout including Moir, Stanley and Max Hollobone who worked his socks off in midfield.

A week off is the reward for the Pirates, a chance for a breather after a hectic few opening weeks to the season.
