Steyning Town knocked out league rivals Lancing from this season’s Emirates FA Cup after a goal crazy first half amidst some unfavourable weather conditions.
Having met just a couple of weeks ago in the Southern Combination Premier Division with Steyning running out 4-3 winners, they ensured the back door was kept firmly shut this time.
They were quick out the blocks too, taking the lead in the first minute, Dion Jarvis deflecting a cross shot for the perfect start. The hosts controlled much of the ball and on 22 minutes doubled their lead.
Joe Benn was set away down the right flank and his perfectly timed cross was met by the arriving Jarvis for his and Steyning’s second goal of the game.
The pick of the bunch came on 35 minutes, a free kick 20 yards out and superbly curled home by Stan Bridgman, Jordan Brown well beaten in the Lancers net.
Four minutes later Jarvis turned provider as his cross was flicked home by Harry Heath against his former club, the game in danger of turning into a rout.
The weather became a further opponent for both sides in the second half, the home side content to push and probe without needing to over commit, Lancing looking to restore some pride.
The visitors struggled to get hold of the ball again and weren’t helped when they were reduced to ten men Mayorol Sabino was sent off for a flailing elbow in Heath’s direction.
The Barrowmen did get on the scoresheet with 15 minutes to go, Bridgman tapping in for a brace whilst substitute Jazz Rance rattled the bar in the final ten minutes as the Barrowmen booked their place in 2nd Qualifying Round draw on Monday.
