Copthorne 0–5 Upper Beeding — From the Beeding Camp

Ryan

A tough afternoon at Roffey awaited the new-look Beeding side. After a five-minute onslaught from the hosts we settled quickly, and opened the scoring in the 7th minute with two of the new signings combining — Luke Usherwood assisting Will Gilbert, who calmly slotted past the goalkeeper. 1–0 Beeding, and our keeper had already made three really good saves.

Three or four minutes later we had a free kick from about 25 yards. Will stepped up and scored a beauty. 2–0.

The game got feisty, and Copthorne were very lucky not to be down to ten men when we broke through and our forward was fouled twice as he was about to tap home.

A deep free kick added to Copthorne’s woes: Will picked out the nippy Luke O’Neil, who toe-tapped past two players before finding Connor Angood, who made no mistake. 3–0.

A corner soon after brought the fourth — Adam Davies, our very own Tree, smashing a header home just before half-time. 4–0.

The second half was more of the same. Copthorne couldn’t deal with the pace out wide, tried playing a high line, and their goalkeeper came to the rescue several times — it could have been eight or nine at this point.

Late on we ran through again, and at the second attempt Luke Usherwood — another new lad — smashed home to make it 5–0.

Recap: Will Gilbert 2 goals, 2 assists · Connor Angood 1 goal · Adam “Tree” Davies 1 goal · Luke Usherwood 1 goal, 1 assist · Luke O’Neil 2 assists.

A great result for Beeding, who are on the road again next week at TD Shipley.

Ryan.
