Bognor Regis Town let slip a two goal lead on Tuesday evening and in the end had to hang on for a point in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
Needing a win to move off the bottom the Rocks were in the ascendancy until two goals in the final five minutes sent Utd back to Essex clinging on to their play-off hopes.
A cold, crisp night in West Sussex started off perfectly for the home side as Harvey Rew fired home with only a minute on the clock.
Despite moving the ball nicely across the pitch, Hashtag couldn’t create any openings to trouble Ryan Hall whilst Bognor couldn’t finish off a couple of goal line scrambles to double their lead, heading into the interval a goal to the good.
The second half was all Hashtag. Dominant on the ball straight from kick off they asked some good questions of the hosts back line which they stood up to well, but increasing pressure the feeling was Bognor needed a second goal to steady the nerves.
And on 75 minutes they got the breathing space, a superb low drive from Chad Field, all of 20 yards out arrowed into the bottom corner and the Rocks looking set to grab victory.
Michael Birmingham and Jamie Howell made a couple of substitutions to shore up the game, but on 87 minutes Hashtag pulled a goal back through Misha Djemaili.
With nerves living on the edge, the Rocks conceded again just a minute later to see victory hopes extinguished and a point for their troubles instead of all three.
The draw keeps Bognor at the bottom a point behind Bowers & Pitsea and trailing Sussex rivals Hastings Utd by five points.
Rocks welcome title chasing Billericay Town to Nyewood Lane on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm) knowing they can’t afford too many more slip-up’s this season.
