National League South Worthing progressed to the next round of the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening at the expense of the hosts from four steps lower.
The Rebels fielded a strong starting eleven with seven first team regulars starting the game, Danny Cashman and Jack Spong populating the bench.
EP had an excellent chance just before the opening goal was scored, Carl Bennett skewing an effort wide of Chris Haigh’s near post. Worthing then took the lead on 11 minutes, Joe Cook’s cross headed onto the bar by Temi Babalola, the striker then converting the rebound.
The hosts then sat back allowing Worthing to control the play and looking to hit on the counter, going close with a free kick after the half hour mark, while Worthing hit the bar three minutes before half time, the lead belonging to the visitors but EP managing to keep their opponents within reach.
However, the Rebels came out with purpose in the second half and Tommy Willard doubled their lead on 52 minutes with the hosts struggling to keep up with the extra tempo.
Harry Smith added a third for the visitors on 57 minutes and although EP replied with a Zion McLeod penalty with 23 minutes to play they couldn’t force another goal despite hitting a post and the bar, a good crowd of 439 with a majority of them going home happy.
