Hassocks kept up the pressure on leaders Haywards Heath Town with a comprehensive victory over depleted Newhaven. The visitors were also expected to be in the title or play-off conversation but a host of injury complications have made the Dockers task that much harder.
The hosts were into their stride very quickly, the direct running of Harry Furnell to cause a problem all game long. The Robins took the lead on 12 minutes, Jamie Wilkes 25 yards out unleashing a superb shot past Josh James to open the scoring.
Furnell added a second just before the half hour mark, heading home from a couple of yards out after Morgan Vale had hit the post and fizzed the ball around from the rebound.
Five minutes later the visitors conceded again, a corner from the left went all the way through to the back post for Liam Hendy to volley home.
Vale then added salt to the Dockers wounds in first half stoppage time, sent clear by Alex Fair, the striker racing away from defenders, rounded James and slotted into the empty net.
Haven did come out second half looking more robust across the park but just couldn’t get anything going to trouble Jordan Brown, the home side wrapping up the scoring in the final minute with the ball dropping to Will Berry just inside the penalty area, a volley returned into the bottom corner to complete a miserable day for the Dockers but hanging onto the Heath coat tails for the Robins.
