Hastings Utd picked up another three points as their climb away from the Isthmian South East Division relegation zone continues to gather pace.
On a dark and cold Saturday lunchtime, the U’s were made to work hard by Jersey Bulls but a single goal was enough to make it one defeat for the hosts in five games since the arrival of Dave Alterndoff.
The early impetus came from the home side, Bulls keeper Euan Van Der Vliet struggling to deal with the set pieces into the box and it was from one of those Hastings took the lead.
On 16 minutes the Bulls defence failed to deal with another corner and Eugene Askie smashed the ball home from a couple of yards out after one or two efforts prior didn’t make it over the line.
Jersey did look dangerous going forward but the final ball into the box didn’t find it’s target and Okie along with defensive partner Sam Pidgeon mopping up everything.
The second half was a real backs to the wall performance from the home side as Jersey turned the screw, dominating possession and winning the midfield second balls, but as per the first half there was very little to test Harry Howes in the Hastings goal.
A few nervy moments in stoppage time saw the visitors almost create something to take home a point but the home side held out to record a third league win in their last five outings.
