Haywards Heath Town inched a step close to Wembley on Sunday afternoon, getting the better of Great Yarmouth Town in the Isuzu FA Vase.
Kevin Green’s side returned to Norfolk eight days after the original tie was abandoned thanks to thick sea fog and the game level at 1-1.
On a pitch that was certainly something of a leveller, Heath struck early through Tom Chalaye after just seven minutes. The striker, deployed in a wide left role, cut inside and fired home and opened what seemingly could have been the floodgates parting ways.
But the surface didn’t allow for crisp, passing, controlled football and the visitors had to dig deep for 90 minutes to secure their passage into the next round.
Chances were few and far between for both sides early on, although Heath looked the more likely to add to their tally with Chalaye and Mark Goldson quick off the blocks on either wing.
The Bloaters certainly weren’t afraid to get at their opponents and had the majority of the efforts on goal second half but nothing of note to trouble Nathan Stroomberg-Clarke.
The closest Heath came to doubling their advantage was a Harry Shooman header bouncing on top of the crossbar amidst a couple of blocked shots and Flynn Bolton hitting the side netting, the Sussex side moving into the next round to host Wessex Premier Division side AFC Stoneham on Saturday 7th February ko 3pm.
