Lewes moved into 4th place in the Isthmian Premier Division on Tuesday evening after victory in the Sussex derby.
The Rooks were quick off the mark taking the lead with just 30 seconds on the clock, a Toby Bull kick was flicked on into the path of Gianluca Botti and the striker slotted past Ryan Hall before most were in position to watch the game.
However, they didn’t push on for a second and with neither side managing to hold into the ball for any length of time the play became a bit scrappy.
The Rocks found themselves an equaliser after Bull was caught in possession outside the penalty area, Jasper Mather taking the ball off the keeper and sliding the ball home despite the attentions of a home defender after 10 minutes.
Bognor had the better of the first half but neither side managed to find the way through to score again, the scores level at half time.
Lewes opened the second half with balls down the flanks trying to open up the Bognor defence, however it was the visitors with the best few chances, Doug Tuck hitting the post, Mather with an effort off the line and Bull called upon for a couple of fine saves.
But, the switch then flipped and Lewes began to pile on the pressure, a sense around the ground that a goal was coming and eventually it arrived on 87 minutes.
Having worked the ball across the pitch the Rooks returned it to the middle of the park and Matty Warren unleashed a superb strike from all of 25 yards at least.
The goal seemed to knock some stuffing out of the visitors and as the game entered stoppage time Botti outmuscled his defender, drove into the penalty area and shot across Hall, his effort going in via the post.
There was still time for Danny Bassett to fire home left footed from 20 yards out to put some gloss on the scoreline to leave the visitors in the bottom four unable to build on Saturday’s win over Bowers & Pitsea.
