Steyning Town rescued a late point on Tuesday evening after a resilient Pagham thought they’d done enough to take all three points in the Southern Combination Premier Division.

Harry Heath’s cross in the 95th minute from the right hand touchline looped over the head of Connor Kelly and into the net to give The Barrowmen a share of the spoils.

Tom Jefkins had given the Lions the lead on 12 minutes, his run timed well to get a clear shot on Mitch Bromage’s goal for the opening strike of the game.

The Lions settled in frustrating the home side with a good shape and willingness to work hard for each other, controlling the midfield.

Steyning struggled to keep hold of the ball and pass their way down the pitch, however did hit the post in the first half in a game that was producing very few clear cut chances for either side.

The second half followed a similar pattern although The Barrowmen were moving the ball quicker than the first 45, chances were still at a premium.

Just as it looked like the Lions would head out of the Peter Humphreys Stadium with the win, Heath’s late leveller picked up a point.

This weekend Steyning Town host Hendon (3pm) in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round while Pagham head to Wick in the Peter Bentley Cup 2nd Round (3pm).
