Eastbourne Town came from a goal behind to pick up their first win of the season against East Grinstead Town at a damp Vistavis Community Stadium.

In an open start to proceedings it was the visitors who had the better of the chances, the best of which falling to Jadon Fuller who just failed to connect with a Nathan Hover cross from the right.

However, it was the hosts who took the lead on the half hour mark, Chris Winterton parrying an effort away, the ball eventually falling to Ollie Rawlins who made no mistake in tucking the ball away.

Town almost went in level, Sonny Walsh’s volley well saved by Wasps keeper Rex Porter to keep his side in front at the break.

A half time substitution by the visitors changed the course of the game through the second half. Lucas Rodrigues, on loan from Horsham, replaced Fuller at the break and within six minutes he had equalised for Town capitalising on a poor backward header to loop over Porter.

With the visitors in the ascendancy, the seasiders thought they had take the lead, a fine sweeping move involving Jack Murphy and Aaron Capon but Porter was equal to the shot, Walsh flagged offside as he converted the rebound.

The winner did come with five minutes left on the clock, substitute James Waters saw his strong effort pushed into the path of Rodrigues who slotted home.

The Wasps laid siege to the Town goal for the remainder of the game, a fine Winterton save preserved the three points as the visitors young central defensive partnership held firm.

Whilst Town picked up their first win, the Wasps are yet to get off the mark in the Isthmian South East Division. Whilst the score line may not fully reflect the dominance shown by his side, Jude Macdonald with pleased by the performance most of all.
